Folk storytelling that tastes like indie rock; a soundtrack for the restless nights.
Couchsleepers was formed by Harrison Hsiang in 2019. Armed with a collection of songs and inspired by great songwriters and bands such as Broken Social Scene, John Mayer, Dawes, Death Cab for Cutie, and Pinegrove, Hsiang rallied together former classmates and collaborators from days at Middlebury College to form Couchsleepers. The result is at once intimate and expansive — Hsiang’s soft-spoken, earnest vocals cut through triumphant horns, swelling guitar lines, and crashing cymbals with ear-catching pop melodies as he ruminates on love and loneliness — and the listener is swept up into a world where it is always after dark, a grandiose, dream-like vision of the life of an artist that is undercut by an unadorned look at human emotion. Their full-length debut, tentatively titled Only When It’s Dark, is due out this fall, 2019.
